En la palabra 'televisión' se mezclan la raíz griega 'tele' (lejos) con la raíz latina 'visio' (visión), formando un conjunto etimológicamente detestable. Fué creada en 1906 por el alemán Grandewitch quien más tarde reconoció su equivocación. En 1933 el francés Blondel ha propuesto el empleo de la palabra 'teleopsia', evidentemente más lógica (las dos raices griegas), pero se ha popularizado tanto la primera, que seguramente subsistirá a pesar de su incongruencia etimológica.

The word 'television' is a mixture of the Greek root 'tele' (far away) and the Latin root 'visio' (vision) forming an etimologically destestable construction. It was created in 1906 by the German Grandentwich who later on recognized his mistake. In 1933 the French Blondel has proposed the use of the word 'teleopsia' evidently more logical (both roots are Greek), however the first has become so popular, that probably will coninue to exist despite its etimological incongruity.
